He is the author of several engineering texts including "Mechanical
Vibration" (John Wiley & Sons, 2006), "System Dynamics"
(McGraw-Hill, 2005), "Introduction to MATLAB 7 for Engineers" (McGraw-Hill,
2005), which was translated into Chinese, Korean, and Italian, and "Modeling, Analysis, and Control of Dynamic Systems",
2nd Edition, (John Wiley & Sons, 1999) . He is also a Special
Contributor to the fifth editions of "Statics" and
"Dynamics" by Meriam and Kraige (John Wiley & Sons, 2002).
The chapter "Basic Control Systems Design" in The
Mechanical Engineer's Handbook, 3rd Edition, M. Kutz, Ed. (John Wiley &
Sons, 2006) was also authored by Professor Palm.He was the Director of the University of Rhode Island Robotics Research Center
from 1986 to 1993, and has conducted sponsored
research in robotics. Some of Dr. Palm's papers have been presented at such
gatherings as the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, the SPIE Conference on Intelligent
Robots and Computer Vision, the CIRP International Seminar on Manufacturing Systems, and the ASME
